UX Design, Website Redesign

Overview

Forest Lake Pets is a prominent pet store located in Forest Lake, MN. Boasting the largest selection of tropical fish in the Twin Cities, Forest Lake Pets is a must-see for fish enthusiasts everywhere. When designing for a growing retail business, I strove to give Forest Lake Pets a fun and functional website that could scale with the store.

Project Goals

  • Create the foundation for a user friendly e-commerce platform for Forest Lake Pets on web and mobile.

  • Give users a clear way to browse inventory and information about the pet store.

The Problem

Forest Lake Pets needs a website that accurately represents all they have to offer which includes a way for users to browse inventory and find information about the business.

Addressing Needs

Before reimagining this site, I met with the shop’s owner to discuss the things he wanted his website to provide for users. Through this meeting I was able to gain a better sense of what items and ideas to prioritize in the redesign. I used these as jumping off points for creating wireframes for the site.

Retail Shop

Without my redesign, the Forest Lake Pets (FLP) site mainly consists of a blog and several pages about business hours and store policy. While these are very important details, I also wanted to create a retail shop where FLP could list their inventory for users to browse and buy online.

Customer Accounts

To further enhance the user experience, I decided to add a way for customers to create an account at FLP. This account would allow them to save shipping and payment information as well as view past and current orders from the shop.

Responsive Design

In creating both web and mobile views for this site, I wanted the differences to be as seamless as possible. Using Adobe XD’s responsive resizing, I was able to achieve this fluidity between these two views.
